Your Ultimate Itinerary for 7 Days in Mexico City

Mexico City is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. With seven days, you’ll have plenty of time to explore its food scene, history and stunning places, it’s a city that truly has it all ❤️ Here’s your ultimate itinerary for making the most of your 7 days in Mexico City!

Day 1: Welcome to CDMX

Morning: Arrival in CDMX

Once you land in Mexico City, take it slow. At over 7,000 feet above sea level, it’s normal to feel a little tired or even dizzy. Take it easy on your first day. Drink water, skip the heavy meals, and let yourself adjust.

Afternoon: Polanco Stroll

If you’re feeling up for it, explore Polanco, the city’s high-end neighborhood. Walk through Lincoln Park and check out the chic shops along Masaryk Avenue. Consider visiting the Museo Soumaya in Polanco. Its modern design is stunning, the art collection is diverse, and the best part? It’s free!

Tip: Go during the week to avoid long lines.

Dinner Recommendations:

  • High Budget: Pujol – A must for foodies! If you want to start your trip with a bang, book a table at Pujol, one of the world’s top restaurants. Their tasting menu is legendary. Tip: Don’t skip reservations for Pujol (at least one month in advance—they book up fast)

  • Medium Budget: Campomar – Delicious seafood, and I highly recommend the tuna tostadas or Alfredo pasta with zarandeado shrimp.

  • Low Budget: El Turix – Small spot, big flavors! Their tacos de cochinita pibil are out of this world.

Day 2: Historic Center and Street Food Walking Tour

Morning: Street Food Walking Tour

Let’s get straight to the good stuff. Meet at 10:00 AM in front of Bellas Artes to begin our Street Food Walking Tour. Start with tamales and atole for breakfast, then head to the San Juan Market for exotic eats (insects, anyone?) and finish with tacos, pambazos, and tlacoyos. Along the way, we’ll explore the heart of the Centro Histórico, including the Zócalo and Templo Mayor.

Tip: Wear comfortable shoes, come hungry, and don’t worry about safety—our tour is the best way to enjoy street food like a local.

Afternoon: Museums

After the tour, head to the MUNAL (National Museum of Art) or step inside the Palacio de Bellas Artes (we only see it from the outside on the tour). Check what exhibitions are happening before you go.

Dinner Recommendations:

Evening: Mariachi at Garibaldi

Head to Garibaldi Square to hear mariachi bands. It’s a lively scene, but keep an eye on your belongings and safety. Stick to Uber for transportation and avoid taxis or the metro at night.

Morning: Chapultepec Castle

Start your day at Chapultepec Castle, a historic gem located atop a hill in Chapultepec Park. The castle offers stunning views and fascinating insights into Mexico’s history.

Afternoon: National Museum of Anthropology

The National Museum of Anthropology is a must-visit. It’s massive, but the highlights are the Aztec Sun Stone and Mayan exhibits. Don’t miss one of the world’s greatest museums.
